Why is Routine Dental Care Important?
A good oral hygiene routine maintains the health and cleanliness of the smile. Routine dental appointments are a part of maintaining good oral health. Our hygienists help remove food debris and harmful bacteria from the teeth and gums at regular dental cleanings. In addition, we utilize x-rays and scans to find emerging dental issues.
Before your first appointment, we ask that you send us your medical history or have your previous office send your records to our office. When you schedule your appointment, we will ask for your insurance information. If you have any questions or dental problems that you would like to discuss with us, please keep these in mind for your consultation.
We will provide you with a dental cleaning, x-rays, and consultation during your first visit. Additionally, we may screen for dental problems like gum disease and oral cancer. Our team will look for red and white patches in the mouth which are typically signs of oral cancer. Common signs of gum disease include red, swollen, and irritated gums. We want to find symptoms of these common oral health issues to provide the best care possible.

Are you taking new patients?
Yes, new patients are welcome to make an appointment at Dovedale Dental Care. You may schedule a dental consultation with us on our website or call 410-442-1173.
Does your office accept dental insurance?
Our dental office works with many insurers: Ameritas, Cigna, Delta, GEHA, Dominion, United Concordia, Met Life, BC/BS, Fep Blue Dental, Dental Network, Humana, Dental Benefit Providers, Denta Quest, and Guardian. We will help submit your claims for you. However, if you have questions about your specific plan, contact your provider about what your plan covers.
How often should I visit the dentist?
Patients should visit the dentist twice a year, or every six months. Routine dental care is an important part of preventative dentistry. If we find that you have a chronic dental problem, we may recommend that you visit our office more frequently.
When should I get a new toothbrush?
We recommend that patients replace their toothbrushes every three to four months. Over time, the brush bristles can get worn down and become less effective. Bacteria can also build on the toothbrush, contributing to tooth decay and gum disease problems. Replacing your toothbrush two or three times a year keeps your breath fresh and your teeth clean.
How long do I need to brush my teeth per day?
Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time. To remove bacteria and food debris from between teeth, floss before you brush your teeth. In addition, flossing before you brush can help clean the areas between teeth that can be difficult to reach.
